THE WAY OF INITIATION

Before you even start reading, this Book by virtue of its subtitle, clarifies from the very beginning what ‘Initiation’ actually is = The Development of Energetic Awareness. 

In worldly terms, it can be said that we have all, at one time or another, sought to be initiated or to initiate ourselves, whether we actually use that word or not.

Starting school, starting university, getting a degree, losing one’s virginity, the boy becoming a man, the girl becoming a woman, passing one’s exams, getting a drivers licence, the first overseas trip – are all in one way or another initiations of some kind.   

And thus it seems that an initiation is somehow associated with knowing more and doing more – the first degree is eventually traded in for a higher degree, the now sexually active person has either more partners or starts a long-term relationship, the traveller seeks out other destinations, plans the next trip. And even if no further activities of the same kind follow, there is no turning back to a point before this initiation: even if a person is not sexually active, they don’t reinstate their virginity, the graduate does not undo their degree even if they never work in the originally chosen field, the man does not return to being the boy he once was.      

From the above examples, it can be seen that initiations in the usual sense are seemingly haphazard and all over the place, so to speak. They are associated with activities, the acquisition of knowledge or status, with age and the passage of time, or so it seems. They don’t ever satisfy for very long and need to be topped up with more achievements, another milestone, further initiations of some kind. The striving and yearning, which are evidently so much part of the human psyche, keep us moving on and on and on. But, the true esoteric tells us that what we are looking for on the outside is already within us and not something we externally acquire, gain, receive or even purchase. It is neither something that we can bring on or into ourselves from an outside source nor something that is given to, bestowed upon or granted us. Money can’t buy it for us and our striving and outward seeking are utterly futile and their results and outcomes only ever momentarily satisfying. Their only virtue and tangible asset is the fact that this incessant drive shows that we know we are from a different place and of a higher initiation than the one we have somehow and apparently unknowingly decided to adopt as our costume, our armour and our mask in our daily life from birth to death. Our disguise is so convincing, that we even manage to fool ourselves.

Therefore, initiation as presented by the Ageless Wisdom, is a process of returning to the source we are from and not ever a path or journey of going somewhere, being someone or ‘something’ and or a process, state or status that can be externally acquired.
